“But what about all the different methods” we hear you ask. Well my fellow aluminium fans, let’s take a look.

Aluminium Fabrication Processes

  • Drilling – The process of creating exact fastening and connecting points for your extrusions.  Or in layman’s terms drilling a hole!
  • Tapping – The process of creating various-sized threads inside your drilled or otherwise machined holes
  • CNC Machining – The process of creating your desired aluminium component by removing material from the extrusion in certain places and thus making it a 3D shape.
  • Punching – The process involves using a tool called a punch die to penetrate the extruded profile leading to the creation of a hole. This method is usually applied if multiple holes are required for large volumes.
  • Cutting to length – A process that uses state-of-the-art cutting tools to ensure all delivered aluminium lengths are cut to precision tolerances.
  • Brushing – A process that changes the surface texture of the finished aluminium profile to a more ‘brushed’ finish, as opposed to a polished or mill finish (as extruded) 

Forming – The process of shaping the aluminium profiles into curves rather than straight lengths as originally specified and agreed between us and the client.

The team at Love Aluminium has been creating bespoke aluminium extrusions using 5-axis CNC Machining for years.

This method allows us to move either a part or a tool simultaneously along 5 different axis.

In contrast, 3-axis CNC machining will move a part in 2 directions, with the tool moving up and down. The ability to rotate on 2 additional rotary axis is what sets the 5-axis CNC machining method apart. 

Using a 5-axis CNC machine offers us several advantages:

If length is your number one priority, this technique can process aluminium profiles of up to 15 metres in length. This outperforms most other models that lack the capacity to produce such extended outputs.

5-axis machining connects through serial and USB ports, through a Windows operating system, as well as using a network connection.
